New Bicycle Magazines

The winter and holiday season is a pretty good time to get into bicycle magazines. Subscriptions to magazines will always be a great last second gift option, and they're fun to read while you're gearing up the next season. If you're getting a little tired of the same old stories out of traditional bike magazine powerhouses, here are a couple newer magazines that seem pretty cool.

Peloton and Switchback: These are some pretty hefty magazines (I think 144 pages in the last issue of Peloton) with tons of reviews, race reports on mainstream and more obscure events, interviews, and behind the scenes stories of current and pass faces of cycling. Peloton covers the road and cyclocross scenes, while Switchback handles the mountain side of cycling. A subscription runs around $28, and sets you up with nine issues over the course of the year. So far, it seems like a pretty good deal considering the high level of content.

Bicycle Traveler: There aren't a ton of bicycle travel magazines, and in a niche market that is far from saturated, it is really cool to see that this publication is free. For now it is available as an online PDF only, and by subscribing, you will be notified when a new issue is available for download. Content includes stories from all over the world, and they come with some great photos. The price is definitely right!

Don't know if there's a magazine for this - but I have a folding bike enthusiast in my life. Any folder-specific publications you know of? Although I will check out that free travel one too - seems like travel and folding bikes could go well together, and as you point out...the price is definitely right.
